My Soap Opera Life

2 days... Freezing temps... 7 games... 2nd place
Back to Full Blog

I'm totally exhausted & about to fall asleep here at/on my desk.

We just finished a 2-day local softball tournament. Our Monday games started at 1:30. This is spring break in our county, but all of us aren't teachers. Luckily, my boss let me take my lunch hour later so I could attend the game. Then he called & told me not to bother coming back in for an hour, so that was great! It was so cold & we were covered in sleet/ice so I was happy to be able to go home to dry out & warm up before our next games at 6:00 & 7:30. Both of these got a late start, so needless to say, I was late getting home. As soon as I arrived home at 10:20, I had to get my flowers & plants covered for the freeze we were having. I finally warmed up in a hot shower & hit the bed about midnight.

I was sleepy, but still was ok getting up yesterday. Since we lost our last game Monday, we didn't play until 4:30. This was ok as I wouldn't have to ask to leave work early, or miss a game. We usually seem to have a "Bad News Bears" inning at some point & Monday night's game was no different. We actually have beat ourselves more than the other team. We lost, won, & lost...

I went straight to the complex from work to start the games. After the pool play Monday for seeding, todays games are single elimination - meaning, if you lose, you're out of the tournament. We sure didn't want that!

Boy were the girls pumped up & on a roll! We have all great innings & won our first two games. The third game was against a team that had beaten us at a previous area game, so we were determined that we WERE going to win this time. Plus, this game determined who went on to play in the championship game for the trophy/title!

It was going very well until the last inning & a couple of missed balls during a brief "BNB" moment. They came back with multiple runs in, & made it up to 8 to our 9 points with only a couple of minutes left.

This pitcher has now pitched 3 straight back-to-back 80-minute games & she's exhausted, & her arm it hurting. She iced it down between games, but still... Another pitcher has bicep tendonitis & can't pitch. The time ran out & we won! This put us in the championship game to be played immediately following this one! Yeah girls!!

He put in our last pitcher for this big game as she is good & is fast. She's a senior & one of the best players on the team. She was doing great until a line drive ball flew directly at her & hit her pitching forearm. The poor girl is tough, but she was in tears on the field. I heard the ball hit bone! They even had to have someone come on the field to look at it. She was almost out of the game, but sucked it up & decided she WAS going to finish pitching. You could tell she was in pain too & would probably have it xrayed today. We ended up losing this game pretty bad, but still came in 2nd place for the tournament!

Thank goodness the girls now have 5 days off to rest. 7 games in 2 days is a LOT of games! Our next will be Monday....

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd love to take a nap!

Hope you all have a great week!!

Hi Polar! I just came back from lunch & now it's even worse!! No sleep & a full belly spells NO WORK outta THIS one for the rest of today!
When I was pregnant with Lulu, he caught me napping at my desk several times. Of course, I've caught him sleeping at his too!
I think I'm even too tired to snore...
Thanks for stopping by!

Hiya Sybil!

I dozed off once resting my head on my hand propped up on my elbow once. My arm fell over & woke me up just as I was about to smack my head down on the desk. I changed positions & laid back down! LOL

I'm SO incredibly sleepy. I have no kiddos, no practices or games after work today so I'm SURE I'll be going straight home, long hot shower or bath, & then I'll be horizontal & hopefully snoring my arse off for 10+ hours! That's sounds wonderful!!

Wow, that sounds exhausting. I wish my kids would ge into team sports, but they aren't really feeling it. I just want them to get some regular exercise and I feel like team sports teach them all kinds of other things too.
I hope you have gotten the chance to rest up!

Hi raspberry. I love that they're all involved in sports activities. It teaches them discipline, team work, sportsmanship, etc. Plus, they're too busy to get in to trouble for being "bored"!

I've been able to sleep the last 2 nights, so yes, I'm catching up.

Have a great weekend!

Hi June

Their games are going well! Lulu has a game in the morning, but that's all we have until Monday.
Monday, Tay has one at 4:30 & Lulu has one at 7:00??
Tuesday, Tay has one at 4:30 (important game!) & Lulu at 5:30. I don't want to miss either, but will have to.

Lulu & I are going to work in the flower beds this weekend. I love me some flowers/colors to look at!

Hope you & Ron have a great weekend.
