 What Easter candy are you?

You Are an Easter Egg

You're so sweet, you don't need candy. You much prefer the taste of artificial coloring instead.

 Good news!!

The client/friend/body shop owner, Ron, came to my office first thing cuz he wanted to be here before the adjuster/appraiser arrived to do his assessment. He was making all sorts of calls but was getting over the value limit for repairs/replacement parts...not good. He said he'd just have to cut back on his pricing some to meet the thresh hold. *whew* It sure pays to know people!!!

The appraiser came at 9:00. He was very nice & easy to work with. He said there is only cosmetic damage & no frame or structural damage, so he had no problem with not totaling it out. He wrote up his estimate based on Ron's estimate, cut me a check, & gave me the paper work. He said if we found any further damage, just to let him know & he'll take care of it!

I can also get a rental car while mine is in the shop, but I don't think B can drive a rental due to his age. He would have to drive my newer car & me drive the rental. Plus, with no collision coverage on my insurance for the van, I'd have to pay for the rental company's collision insurance coverage.

So, I'm thinking no rental. B will just have to be without a ride for next week while the repairs are being made. This is an inconvenience for all of us cuz he drives he & Tay to school, then himself to physical therapy right after school. Now we'll have to get his step mom to run him to therapy straight from school, & me pick him up on my way from work. Hopefully he'll be finished when I get there cuz Tay has games at 4:30 & I can barely get there on time as it is.

Anyhoo, I'm relieved. Thank you, Lord!! Thank you, Jesus!!

 Waiting on appraiser...

I finally heard from the adjuster for my claim from B's accident the other day. He'll have it assigned to an appraiser to come out & make an estimate of damages - & will write me a check right there. That part is great news! But....

My van is a 2000 model with 182,000 (yes, you read that right!) miles on it!! I'm SO afraid they will want to total my van. If the cost to repair is 70-75% or more of the actual cash value, they'll total it out. He smashed the rear bumper completely in, the back hatch door is smashed, the front bumper has a hole it in, & the grill just above the bumper has been pulled down a bit. Sounds like it'll be too much for them to want to pay to repair. They'll pay me for the ACV of the van, & then take the van to sale as salvage. It drives fine! I can't replace the car for what they would probably pay me. I'm sure it'd be about $1,000 - or maybe a bit more, if I'm lucky.

I've taken VERY good care of that with it being serviced, etc. It had new timing put on it 2 years ago & is in good mechanical condition per my mechanic (that just retired). He said it should last me for many more miles...

*sigh* I know how this show works & I'm afraid I'm NOT going to like what the outcome will be. It really sucks to have a perfectly good, running vehicle & someone come along & then it's gone & you're out a car....

*double sigh*

***UPDATE:

A customer of mine has a body shop & is going to help me out. He told me to have the the appraiser meet me at his shop - even if it's after hours. He'll talk to the appraiser & go from there. It he wants to total it, we'll ask about doing a "contract price" to fix it - meaning that the shop agrees to fix the vehicle for a set price. This is what he does is buy totalled vehicles, repair them to be inspected with a clear title, & then resale. So, this might be my best bet. The kids would like that so they don't have to drive mom's minivan....

It's a shame that I had a perfectly good vehicle & might be out one just like that.
