Tay made JV Softball team (again)

Tryouts for the new season were Monday & yesterday. They had the results posted on the coach's door this morning.

Yes, Tay made the team again! I didn't have any doubt that she wouldn't, but I'm still proud.

Practice is now every day after school for 2 hours. Their first game will be Thursday/Feb 22nd. So, here we go again. A continuation of my "taxi-service" to/from practices & games if a different sport now.

Lulu will start back with her Cheer-nastics tomorrow evening. Her cheer sign-ups are Saturday morning & try-outs will be next month. I might end up sponsor of her "C Team" this year. I dunno yet.

She will also be starting her softball season soon too. I don't know how I'm going to manage being at games with each at 2 different places when they have the games the same night.

I'm tired...

 Softball/Baseball Clinic today

Today I took Tay & Lulu to the clinic. It was incredible the amount of people that turned out to help coach & train these kids!! I was so impressed!

This was put together in a week by the coast of Jacksonville State University's long-time coach, Rudy Abbott. In fact, the highway near my home is named after him. His nephew, Terry Abbott, has been Cincinnati Reds pitching coach for 15 years. Josh BeShears is an All-Star starting pitcher for Winnipeg, CA team. One of the coaches there has been in 4 World Series games - 2 of which they won. There were players from SU in FL that came up. Some came from far away to help these kids. FREE OF CHARGE. Most of them played under Rudy at some point in their lives. Rudy has been around for a loooong time. The JSU baseball & softball teams were there helping too. It was amazing. He put on this clinic free because he didn't want any child to be left out just because they didn't have the money. How great is that? I thanked him personally, & some of the coaches too.

They had water & Powerades for sale at $1.00. Rudy's plan was that he would match whatever profits were made & donate them to our High School. Not long into the clinic, he came over & told them to give them to the kids free. Evidently, many kids didn't bring any money & he didn't want any to not have a drink.

They were taught the correct stance when batting, how to catch, bat, throw, etc. I was so thankful for all of them for actually caring about our youth in such a manner. It was incredible to me.

Here's a public THANK YOU to all of you! (I know they'll never see this, but at least I know I did this.)

 Scholars Bowl

In a previous post, I told you about Tay being in the District Scholars Bowl this morning (at a school in the next county). There were only 8 chosen from her school (7th & 8th graders) to participate. This is middle school competition.

It was crowded with a bunch of brainiacs in the room. We got our instructions & headed to our rooms. It all started at 9:00 am with 5 schools in their bracket. It was set up kind of like Jeopardy, with the kids having a buzzer to push.

We won round #1, won round #2, won round #3, & then lost round #4. That put us in SECOND PLACE & we will now go on to the State Competition!! I don't know when or where yet, but we did well!

I'm so proud of my little Tay for being in this. She didn't realize what a honor it is to be chosen to represent your school in this competition. I think she does now.

After the competition, we jumped in the van & headed straight to Birmingham to get my other pair of glasses. It's been an 8-hour day so far with more to go. *whew*

This evening is the high school's Elite Night Dance. Tay will be getting ready for that in a little while as it starts at 8:00. She didn't want to wear a formal dress, so she chose a pair of black pin-stripped dress pants outfit to wear. She looks great! I'm happy for her.

Lulu spent the night with one of her friends last night. I picked them up just a bit ago as her friend will be spending tonight with us. Now I'm home with two silly wild indians running around the house full of giggles! They have so much fun together.

B spent the night with one of his friends last night too, but he'll be riding to the dance with him. I think they're going Cosmic Bowling at midnight tonight after the dance with the boy's parents. They were supposed to go last night, but didn't. He'll be back home in the morning.

Tomorrow we have Softball Clinic from 2 - 4 for Tay & Lulu. We concluded her Jr V Basketball season Thursday & now begin the softball season....

A mother's work is never done. "Mom's Taxi at your service!"

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

 The Amazing Deck of Cards

You will never look at a deck of cards the same after reading this...

This is great!

Deck of Cards

It was quiet that day, the guns and the mortars, and land mines for some reason hadn't been heard.

The young soldier knew it was Sunday, the holiest day of the week.

As he was sitting there, he got out an old deck of cards and laid them out across his bunk.

Just then an army sergeant came in and said, "Why aren't you with the rest of the platoon?"

The soldier replied, "I thought I would stay behind and spend some time with the Lord."

The sergeant said, "Looks to me like you're going to play cards."

The soldier said, "No, sir. You see, since we are not allowed to have Bibles or other spiritual books in this country, I've decided to talk to the Lord by studying this deck of cards."

The sergeant asked in disbelief, "How will you do that?"

"You see the Ace, Sergeant? It reminds me that there is only one God.

The Two represents the two parts of the Bible, Old and New Testaments.

The Three represents the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.

The Four stands for the Four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The Five is for the five virgins - there were ten but only five of them were glorified.

The Six is for the six days it took God to create the Heavens and Earth.

The Seven is for the day God rested after making His Creation.

The Eight is for the family of Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives -- the eight people God spared from the flood that destroyed the Earth.

The Nine is for the lepers that Jesus cleansed of leprosy. He cleansed ten, but nine never thanked Him.

The Ten represents the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on tablets made of stone.

The Jack is a reminder of Satan, one of God's first angels, but he got kicked out of heaven for his sly and wicked ways and is now the joker of eternal hell.

The Queen stands for the Virgin Mary.

The King stands for Jesus, for he is the King of all kings.

When I count the dots on all the cards, I come up with 365 total, one for every day of the year.

There are a total of 52 cards in a deck; each is a week - 52 weeks in a year.

The four suits represent the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Each suit has thirteen cards -- there are exactly thirteen weeks in a quarter.

So when I want to talk to God and thank Him, I just pull out this old deck of cards and they remind me of all that I have to be thankful for."

The sergeant just stood there. After a minute, with tears in his eyes and pain in his heart, he said, "Soldier, can I borrow that deck of cards?"

Please let this be a reminder and take time to pray for all of our soldiers who are being sent away, putting their lives on the line fighting.

Please keep the wheel rolling. It will only take a few seconds of your time, but it'll be worth it to read on...

Prayer for the Military:

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them.
Bless them and their families.
I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our servicemen and women all around the world.

Of all the gifts you could give a Soldier, prayer is the very best one.
