My Soap Opera Life

The birds are back in town...& softball

I finally put some food out in my 5 bird feeders yesterday in hopes of my cardinals, blue birds & finches returning. I was overrun by squirrels that kept eating all of the bird food AND the feeders were getting chewed to pieces, so I stopped putting out food. The squirrels eventually went away, but so did my birds. It the massive amounts of squirrels come back this year, I'm either gonna ship them off to HeatherScot, or get my sister's 22 after them. They destroyed my feeders & the large heavy plastic box that I kept the seed in.

Up until yesterday, all I've been seeing is plain ole woodpeckers. Yesterday morning, I saw one with a red head & then a black & white speckled one. My first Bluebird appeared too! I've only seen one cardinal so far. I've had the same 2 sets of Cardinals for years, but they disappeared this winter, for some reason.

Once it starts getting warmer, I get some Finch food for that feeder, & I'll fill up my Hummingbird feeders. Those are my favorites to watch!!

Can you tell I'm SO looking forward to spring??

Our softball season games officially begin tonight! It's usually pretty cold for the first part of the season as winter is still hanging around. We about froze to death Saturday afternoon out on the field for Lulu's tryouts. It was supposed to be near 60 or so but it had dropped to 41 by the time we arrived at the ball field.

Lulu will begin practicing 2-3 days a week prolly this week. Her first game isn't until Fri/Mar 21st. Tay's first game is tonight. I'll hurry home from work, grab the other two rugrats, & head straight to the field.

I'm SO ready for me some good softball!!

 Lunar Eclipse

Did you happen to see the lunar eclipse last night? The kids & I all went outside & watched it for a bit. Tay took some pictures with her digital camera. I'm not sure how well they'll turn out, but she tried. It was something to see!

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth's shadow blocks the sun's rays from hitting the moon. The three bodies must be perfectly aligned during a full moon, a rare event because the orbits of the moon and Earth are not on the same plane.

Lunar eclipses aren't as rare as the solar eclipse as they happen more often. Also, you can look at the lunar without hurting your eyes. The one we witnessed last night will be the last one we'll get to see until December 10,2010.

Saturn & the star Regulus lined up forming a perfect triangle with the moon. Jack Horkheimer, of PBS' "Star Gazer," called it "the moon, the lord of the rings and heart of the lion eclipse". The moon was blocked by the earth's shadow. The total lunar eclipse showed many colors - orange, bright red, & brown.

 My time flies

The days keep running together & are flying by so fast! I can't believe it's already the 11th of February. Where has my time gone? Where has YOUR time run off to?

I took Tay to pick up her top retainer this morning, then to school, & then myself to work. She was fitted for her bottom retainer, & her step mom will take her next Monday to pick it up. She's so thrilled to have her braces off. She only has to wear her retainer for 12 hours a day (night). I had to wear mine 24/7! There were too many kids throwing them away at school during lunch, so they now only make them wear them, say from 6p-6a. That's good! Hers is swirls of greens & blues. Yes, they can choose their colors too.

B will be going to the ortho doc who did his surgery for a post-op check up. He's hoping he'll get to remove his immobilizer brace then. He took it off several times over the weekend & was walking without it, but he still had to keep from bending his knee other than a tiny bit. He's getting around pretty good too - except getting in & out of the car with his leg straight. It's still a bit swollen, but the incisions are healing nice. Now, we'll be waiting to hear about rehab/therapy & when that will be. I know it's about 3 times a week.

Let me see.... Our basketball season is officially over since they lost their game in the area tournament. I can't say that I'm really too sad about it. Isn't that awful? I guess I'm just tired of living in various gyms around the counties. Give me some softball field dirt now!

Anyway, I'm trying to catch up on everyone's blogs & work at the same times. I'll get around asap.

Hope you'll all have a great week!!
